For years the medical tattooing or micropigmentation paramedical procedure has been vouched by cosmetic surgeons, ophthalmologists, oncologists and dermatologists as a non-surgical treatment option that can offer hope to post-surgery patients and trauma survivors. This advanced form of cosmetic tattooing has helped many in the restoration of appearance and has worked in tandem with the plastic reconstructive industry.
Medical tattooing has been preferred by medical professionals who want to help their patients recover from invasive and painful operations and injuries through paramedical procedures. This procedure can help burn victims, breast cancer survivors, and scar or facelift camouflage. The results of medical tattooing can last anywhere from 3 to 5 years.
The medical tattooing procedure is especially ideal for cancer patients to camouflage post-surgical scars that can affect the morale of patients, for areola/nipple restoration after breast cancer surgery or as a permanent solution to skin pigmentation loss (Vitiligo), for brow hair loss caused by thyroid conditions, to correct Alopecia or hair loss due to age or illness, hair-pulling disorder (Trichotillomania) or any kind of skin acromia whether it is medical, surgical or traumatic in nature.
This minimally invasive medical tattooing procedure uses custom pigmentation that can match the exact skin tone of the patient. There are many types of ink, both organic or traditional ink that can be used depending on the application. During the procedure these inks are administered using a precision device called a medical tattoo machine.
The single-use sterile inks that are safe and are often tolerated well by the body and these aren’t known to be causing any reactions. But it is advisable that women with sensitive skin, or those with sensitivity to contact lenses, or allergies to cosmetics or people with motor impairment, including post-stroke, arthritis, Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis not opt for medical tattooing.
Like in the regular tattooing, color restructuring can be used with medical tattooing depending on the different applications or body areas. Before the procedure, an anesthetic cream can be applied though this medical tattooing isn’t that painless. Retouching may be required to correct the shade after a month or so. This ensures that the final result is more natural looking.
The after care for medical tattooing is almost similar to that of regular tattooing. Applying ice and a soothing cream for the first few days can limit any irritation caused by the procedure. Doing this can also help to protect the treated area from irritants like sun, cosmetics, water and also to promote good healing.
After the medical tattooing procedure, there can be slight swelling and redness in the tattooed area, and the skin may be uncomfortable. Avoid getting the tattooed area wet for about 24 hours and avoid touching the area in order to prevent any infection. In the 14 to 21 days after the medical tattooing procedure the area can go through three stages of healing. It is normal to see the formation of the scabs over the tattoo to protect the area while it is healing. Once the healing is complete these scabs will begin to peel. After the scabs have fallen off the tattoo shade will appear to be lighter than the initial stage.
